I liked the content but this dude really hates Trump and that gets old.
If you know nothing about using social media for your business, this is the book to read
I myself do not know much about using social media to market a business. This book covers step-by-step instructions on how to set up a page, contents, tying different social media accounts together, search engine optimization, keywords, how to find your reviews, etc. The nice thing about the book is that many of the steps, is that in most all of them the steps are relatively the same, just a slightly different platform. Now I put a simple step to the test. I have been an Avon Rep for years, I have a website but I haven't done much with it until recently. So I decided to create a post that was engaging, asking them to also look at my website to just few the products and asking them to like and share my Facebook post. Then I went to my Instagram page and did the same thing only I tied my Instagram page to my Facebook page. It worked. So now when I post on Instagram it also posts it to my Facebook page. The book explains how to determine content and to make it more engaging that out right asking them to purchase your product or services. It also explains the differences between the major social media platforms. YouTube is a little different in that it mainly is about posting videos, Pinterest the smaller of the group is geared more to women and DIY. Now Facebook and Instagram can do all of those things and more, as were LinkedIn is more about setting up your business profile to network with other businesses and/or finding applicants to fill jobs. All-in-all it is a great book for beginners or technology challenged people who want to use it to promote there business. I will say that, I did not read anywhere in the book on how to make money using these social media platforms, other than the obvious use of keeping your business in front of your family, friends, current and/or potentially new customers. The book is packed with information and instructions, a good social media book.
Good Book for Small Businesses
I have been thinking about opening my own small business based around hand-bound books for a while and have been stumped on one specific part of running a business: marketing. What websites do I use to advertise? Do I buy advertising? How does Twitter work and should I have one? All of this and more were on my mind when I ran across The Social Media Marketing Workbook and I think I finally have answers to those questions and more. Before reading this book, I thought Facebook was something I could ignore during social media marketing since it’s a little old school, but now I realize it can be really useful if I’m looking to connect my business to a specific crowd and age of people. Similarly there is so much information on LinkedIn and how to use it compared with other sites for marketing my business. I think the best thing about this book is its setup. Each chapter is like a week-long lesson in a classroom with in-depth information and assignments to complete to take you along a path that leads to a fully fledged marketing plan. Not only do I have a ton of knowledge on marketing online now, I also have a pretty substantial marketing plan laid out as well. I vaguely mentioned this already, but this book comes with a lot of online resources and worksheets as well that can be accessed after purchasing the book. For me, that is what put this book over the edge for me into pure awesome. Having worksheets and other resources easily accessible online made the whole experience an A+.
A Workbook About Something I Don't Understand - That I Can Understand!
I received this book at a discount in exchange for providing unbiased feedback. I bought the 2016 version of this workbook towards the end of 2016, and never really got around to doing much with it. I was hoping the 2017 version, though, with its updates, would include working with Instagram which is where I want to focus my marketing efforts (unfortunately it didn't). I consider myself a beginner who really resists marketing, and even with just getting on board with social media in general. This book, however, did an excellent job of guiding me through the processes. I appreciate that so much! I found most chapters were relevant and helpful, with timely prompts for review, and tools and downloadable sheets for exploring further. Invaluable! Jason McDonald's writing is succinct, and easy to read and comprehend, putting it a notch above most other social media marketing resources out there. He seems to know just what we need, even when we might not! I still hope in the next version that Instagram will be included! Thank you for a really great resource!
becoming social media savvy
This book is informative and useful because it not only introduces social media but focuses on using it as a marketing tool. Usually when it comes to social media, we would think they are just for leisure and personal use. Or when it comes to marketing, we would think: oh they work for established brands but would not make a difference for individuals. No no no, branding oneself is important. This book talks about different platforms such as FB, Twitter and Pinterest, and compare among them to help you decide which one(s) make(s) sense for you. If you are just getting to know about social media, this book is a godsend for you to know all the basics without feeling lost. If you are a seasoned user, you would find yourself gaining a different perspective regarding these familiar platforms. The bonus here is that this book is the most up-to-date version and has made some revision in order to keep up with what's new. Furthermore, it is not just a glossary of terms but provides step by step instructions to help you devise a marketing plan. I have been to several workshops on social media marketing in my field but they were more like an info session. What we are gonna do with all the information is imperative because we need to translate it into action. For this reason, I highly recommend this book.
This is an Incredible Workbook
The Social Media Marketing Workbook is just that, a workbook full of great ideas, food for thought, and helpful links to information and items for further exploration. I read it once but will be going back through the book, most likely more than once. There is SO much terrific information in this book. This workbook demystifies the process of using social media to gain customers. I learned a ton about platforms that I thought I was really familiar with. The book also has helpful graphics and examples of advertising on the various platforms. This book is worth substantially more than what I paid for it. I have never seen a clearinghouse of information like this that is related to online marketing. The book takes an in-depth look at marketing on all of the major social media sites, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and even Pinterest. The last couple of chapters deal with handling reviews, using SEO, and marketing via email. I particularly enjoyed the section on reviews, as the author covers not only asking for reviews but handling reviews that do not paint a picture of a company in the best light. The email chapter gives terrific insight on how to get a company’s email read and how to develop an email marketing campaign. This book is also easy to read, it is written in a casual, informative style that really makes you feel like you are sitting with the author and having a conversation. I would recommend this book to business owners or anyone who is in charge of marketing for companies of any size.
This is a very helpful guide.
“Social Media Marketing Workbook” by author Jason McDonald, is a very helpful guide to using the internet and social media to promote your business. If you are like me, you’re not looking to become a tech whiz: you’re just looking to make your business a success through the exposure of social media. I am a traditionally, electronically, and self-published novelist who wants to get information on my books ‘out there’, and I believe this is the perfect guide, ‘workbook’ as it is called, to accomplish that. I also believe it would work as well with any small or medium sized business that just needs a push in the right direction. This book gives good descriptions of all the major social media marketplaces, from Facebook to YouTube. It then helps you decide how you would use each one and/or which platforms are best for you. Again, it is not an in-depth course, it is a workbook, which, I believe, is just what I have needed for years. I wish I had been exposed to such a guide many years ago. It is an easy read and is not difficult to understand at all. I do think the level of detail presented is best for beginners, which is what I am. Dr. McDonald definitely knows his stuff. I would recommend “Social Media Marketing Workbook” for anyone who is interested in advancing their own business and products in the electronic age. I am happy with my purchase and would buy the book again.
A must for a beginner.
This book and author gets 5 stars for a lot of reasons. If you want to know the ins and outs about marketing on social media, then this one is for you. It is written for a beginner who wants or need to learn about social media, homework and all. Reading this book, made me feel as if i was in a class. I am a crafter who wants to start marketing on social media. I have a Facebook Business Page and want to upgrade to attract more customers. My main interest in buying this book was for Facebook but love that it coves all of social media. Eventually, I will use other forms of social media. I hesitate at first, but after reading a few chapters, I am gaining more confidence that I can do it. I like that the author provide additional information and will answer any questions you may have. Using worksheets and to-do-lists helps to organize your thoughts and ideas and help you to see the whole picture. Everything is explained in everyday language. Each term is explained. Using a scenario, he breaks down the steps, making easy for you to understand.
Great Resource for Marketing Your Business!
What a great resource book for marketing your business through social media. Author Jason McDonald has done a remarkable job of giving you everything you need for your business to succeed. He gives links to follow, resource references, videos, and a fabulous tool book that goes with it for all your free social media tools. This is a book you shouldn’t be without if you want to succeed. It’s the best-selling marketing book out there, and Author McDonald has done a great job of giving you step-by-step instructions. I love that the author compares social media to a huge party and you’re the host. In that analogy, content serves as the food and entertainment. This book is easy to follow and it’s great for any beginner. Since I’m not familiar with every social platform out there, the author gave a super-fast intro to that platform. I for one am just one person looking to market my product, and the information contained in this book has helped me get going. If you’re an entrepreneur like me with a small business, this book’s definitely for you. If you want to learn the ropes quickly without all the hullabaloo associated with some of the 'marketing gurus' out there, you will do yourself a favor by purchasing this book. It will help you understand how the major social media platforms work and how to find your way around in them. You will have some ‘homework’ to do to help you figure out what you need to focus on. Do yourself a huge favor and buy this book. If you’re serious about succeeding on the internet, you won’t be sorry.
Awesome Book on the Ins and Outs of Social Media Marketing
This is a truly awesome book on Social Media Marketing. We used it for my graduate level class at Purdue. I did not realize all the effort and planning that goes into designing an effective marketing campaign on the various social media platforms. It was a real eyeopener for me. The author updates the book just about every year, so you have the most recent information at your finger tips. He also provides a number of video supplements for the book that you get for free. I really cannot recommend this book enough. It is awesome.
